In the free software affine world (Linux et al), people know that LibreOffice is the better choice. The current version of Apache OpenOffice will run on M1 devices using Rosetta 2.Ive been using version 4.1.11 on my Mac M1 for months. No need to switch to the derivative LibreOffice. "The Document Foundation provides builds for Apple Silicon in a /mac/aarch64/ subdirectory at for testing " These features are like a free Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. !Īs of 12/25/21 the LibreOffice official site states that the "native" non-Rosetta version available for download from the Document Foundation is for "testing" only - not ready for release. In short, it offers (for free) exactly what Microsoft Office offers for a lot of money. Its available in over 30 languages with cross-platform support for macOS, Windows, and Linux. When I go to Preferencies/Advanced I can see all the java versions I have installed So in brief I downloaded the intel Mac version in my M1 iMac device and it works. I erased the LO M1 version and downloaded the intel version. Surprisingly, the official download site just enables you to fetch the Intel-version of the binary. LibreOffice is community-driven and developed software, and is a project of the not-for-profit organization, The Document Foundation. I downloaded it but Libreoffice does not work with java.
