Wherever you get blinds either pay the $40 to have a guy come and measure ( and thus be responsible)or if you do it yourself measure in 7 places for EACH window: top, middle, bottom, left, right, center, and the depth. But either way my BIGGEST piece of advice is this. Just make sure you measure twice so whatever company you go with only cuts once. If that’s what you want there is nothing wrong with it. Order cheap offline or box store you’re generally getting cheap quality. Only difference is Blinds To Go has a LIFETIME warranty. Them and Levolor are pretty good at meeting in the middle for cost and quality. Removing the old shades, I note that the shade installation involves properly placing 4 screws per shade. Today, I notice that one of the bigbox stores online has literally the same shade custom fit to your measurements for $110/window. I did NOT check out the big box stores or online vendors which was the root of my mistake. For 4 sets of custom cellular shades, the cost came in at $500/window. The estimates came in within $50 of each other so I figured these were all competitive. A coworker told me to go through Costco and discouraged me from using an online blinds service or one of the big box stores because "the measurements are so important".Īfter a brief search on Angie's list, I selected three companies (one of which was the costco preferred installer) and sought out bids.
